LEITZ ZOOM

Performance

“The LEITZ PRIMEs had the look I wanted to make Only Murders in the Building pop, and when I heard that the Leitz ZOOMs would also be available to pair with the Primes I knew I’d have a complete set of glass to work with.”

Chris Teague

Zooms like Primes

The LEITZ ZOOM lenses have a performance and consistency that until now has only been achievable with prime lenses and sets them apart from other premium zoom lenses. Designed to the most rigorous standards, the pair of zooms (25-75 mm and 55-125 mm) deliver edge-to-edge illumination and resolution that paints a canvas of the world that stands up to even the most extreme image modification and challenging lighting situations. By faithfully capturing rich colors and accurate, warm skin tones, the LEITZ ZOOMs present the world as you’ve designed it to look.

Similar to the LEITZ PRIME lenses, which they were designed to compliment, the LEITZ ZOOMs exhibit almost no breathing, distortion or chromatic aberrations to distract the viewer and pull them out of the story. Instead, they give the cinematographer the opportunity to let their set design, lighting, and acting tell the story. And for commercial clients looking for accurate color and brand representation, there is no better choice. Similarly, they are a strong option for projects utilizing virtual production and intensive VFX.

Working Fast

When the requirement is to work fast, the LEITZ ZOOMs work even faster. The lenses maintain a consistent T2.8 through the entire focal range, making crane and remote arm work faster and easier. Set lighting and camera settings can remain unchanged whether the director calls for a close up or a master. Matched focus, iris and zoom ring positions make switching lenses a breeze, while their similar length and weight make rebalancing the camera quick and easy too. The parfocal design of the lenses allows for zoom pulls in-shot that maintain focus beautifully.

Designed for Cinematography

To ensure their best-in-class optical performance, the LEITZ ZOOMs are designed, manufactured, and assembled in Germany by the same hands that build all the other Leitz lenses. To meet the diverse needs of productions, the lenses have swappable mounts for PL or LPL with /i metadata contacts. They also feature turnable focus scales for switching between imperial and metric markings.

Pairing with Leitz Lenses

The LEITZ ZOOMs are designed to match the Leitz cine lenses. The consistency in color temperature across the full line of Leitz glass means they will be the best zoom to pair with any Leitz lenses to capture consistent color and skin tones. As their edge-to-edge performance closely follows that of the LEITZ PRIMEs in full frame, it also matches perfectly with the Leitz SUMMILUX-C when used on smaller formats. The sharp center of the Leitz ELSIE lenses and gradual falloff also make the ZOOMs an ideal companion with very little adjustment need to create a perfect match.
