HEKTOR Service Instructions

Leitz HEKTOR lenses are designed to be easy to service, but some specialty tools and skills may still be required. Certain tasks like changing mounts can be done on almost any flat, clean surface using a screwdriver. Other tasks, like replacing lens elements or groups, are more difficult and should be approached with an abundance of care, caution and cleanliness. 

PLEASE NOTE: These videos are meant to be educational only. Even when following the recommended procedures accidents can happen. Dust can get into the lens, a tool can slip and scratch an element, etc. By choosing to do your own lens maintenance you assume all responsibility for the outcome. These videos are not meant to replace proper authorized service or maintenance, and anyone who chooses to service lenses on their own does so at their own risk.

CHANGING THE MOUNTS

Ready to use your Leitz HEKTOR cine lenses on a different camera system? Let us show you how to quickly and easily swap mounts on these lenses for use on cameras featuring Leica L, Sony E, Canon RF or Nikon Z mounts.

CHANGING THE FRONT ELEMENT 25-100mm

Did the front element of your lens get damaged? We’ll show you how to swap the front lens on your Leitz HEKTOR cine lens, 25-100mm only, and get back to work quickly. This procedure is the same for 25, 35, 50, 73 and 100mm HEKTOR lenses.

CHANGING THE REAR GLASS

If the rear element of your Leitz HEKTOR lens gets damaged don’t worry! There is a relatively easy process to replace the rear lens with a new rear group. This video applies to all Leitz HEKTOR cine lenses.

ADJUSTING BACKFOCUS

If your Leitz HEKTOR cine lens is not able to focus at infinity, you may need to adjust the backfocus with some shims. This video shows the process for adding or removing shims under the mount and how to quickly check and confirm your backfocus, even out in the field.
